“if I could ever marry you” 2018, oil on canvas, 60×96”
This series of paintings are focused on the subject of displacement and the LGBT community. I painted small figures of same-sex couples being intimate in interiors that belong to a conservative environment or time. These paintings address the loss sense of belonging that the LGBT individuals commonly experience. This painting, in particular, shows the impossible dreams of closeted lesbian couples living openly queer in the countryside of Northern China.
